“My paintings trace shadows. Working with cyanotype technique enables me to capture the most fleeting moments. It is painting with light. It's the gesture of my hand and of light that defines my technique. Having applied layers of cyanotype on a paper sheet, I let the sunshine imprint the colours. My research on the stillness and movement in nature is inspired by the philosophy of Gaston Bachelard, and poetry of William Blake.”
Alicja Brzeska is a multidisciplinary artist, currently a student of BA Fine Arts at the ZHdK in Zürich, Switzerland. She holds a BA in Art History and Philosophy from Northeastern University in London. Working with cyanotype technique, she captures most ephemeral of moments in life, and translates their immediate presence. Her technique honours the immediacy of photography, within a serenity of a canvas. Her practice is a research of a momentum, marked by her attention to movement of light.
