“My work mirrors my inner processes, questioning, shifting, unfolding. Painting begins long before the canvas: I fill pages with sketches and notes until the image starts to form. In the studio, half of my practice is making, and half is watching the painting breathe and change. I’m currently re-reading The Psychoanalysis of Fire, which has been shaping my research and deepening my understanding of fire as a living presence.”

Giovanna Dantas (Brasília, 2003) is a Brazilian painter living between Rio de Janeiro and Portugal. She studies Painting at EBA/UFRJ and is currently an exchange student at ESAD.CR. Her work explores memory and landscape through the Cerrado, focusing on fire as destruction and renewal. Using warm, earthy tones, she reflects on cycles of burning. Her work has been shown in independent spaces in across Brasil and Portugal.
