“My artistic process works in cycles. In my current cycle I work with the theme: Das Unsichere Bild (The deceiving image). My interest in the deceiving image stem from the rising uncertainty in being able to trust images with AI, war propaganda, etc, but also my own experiences through my chronic illness,a brain disorder which sometimes distorts my sense of perception. For inspiration I often look at psychological horror games as they not just talk about liminality but make it able to experience it.”

Maksim Klopfstein (*2000) explores the concepts of liminality, the sublime and abject through her psychoaesthetic image practice. Through paintings and drawings, made with pigments drawn from soil, rock and rust, she researches these themes by letting them merge into states of transmutation, bridging the divide between consciousness and the unknown. Contradictions which make space to speak of what can't be named: the aftermath of disconnection, the subtle violence of control, the burden of being perceived.
