“In my work, the boundary between subject and object blurs, much like the boundary of abstraction and figuration. This line of separation—where definition usually takes hold—is exactly where I dwell. I’m interested in dissolving those lines, allowing forms to slip between states, refusing categorisation.
Through painting, I search for a way of communing that isn’t bound by verbal logic. It’s not about naming, but experiencing—a visual language that embraces uncertainty and the undefinable.”
Sam Ng (b. 1999, Hong Kong) is a London-based artist working primarily with oil on canvas and linen. Sam’s practice centres on the intimate and overlooked, capturing fleeting moments through a still, contemplative lens.
Ng’s paintings reflect a nuanced engagement with time, memory, and stillness. Employing a restrained yet expressive visual language, Sam explores the poetics of the everyday—balancing precise detail with atmospheric depth to evoke a sense of quiet introspection.
