“I painted this canvas from a video, using an instinctive approach, allowing each element to find its place by itself. I find it exhilarating not knowing what the final result will be. Throughout the process, I allow myself to be surprised by the materiality of the painting and the choices it presents. The image emerges little by little, at its own pace and in its own way. It grows like a living thing.”
Samuel Obst (*2003) is a Swiss artist who uses painting to try to understand what escapes the eye. He seeks to establish a dialogue between the perpetual quest for self and an environment, a world in perpetual movement. Travelling is an inexhaustible source of material, enabling him to hone his sensibility. He is currently studying at the ZHDK.
