I Lost You On A Beautiful Day, 2025

by Virgínia Sofia Neta

“I work very inconsistently, though I think about working constantly - for that I have my notebook. When the words and sketches consume my mind for days on end, they need to come to life.”

Virgínia Sofia Neta (*2000) is a Portuguese artist based in Switzerland. Her practice spans from, drawings to photography and writing. As a visual artist, Virgínia focuses on bodies and the gestural tensions between what is seen and left unsaid. As a writer, she is interested in spur-of-the-moment writing sessions, where emotions are still raw and theatrical and in need to be processed.

    • I was so desperate for any remainder of
    • You that I scoured the floor for your little
    • Bundles of hair
    • Desperate to give you
    • Back to earth
    • Before they cleaned you out of your home,
    • our home
    • I ran and ran with my big yet to drown
    • Heart heavier than tons
    • And I planted them in the vases mom
    • Nurtured all these years
    • So that she can keep nurturing you

    • So jealous of the floor for it got to hold you last

    • If hair holds memories
    • Then I have you completely tangled
    • On this empty bird’s nest
    • Waiting for spring to
    • come
